Dual Fusion is live in Pokémon TCG Pocket, introducing dual-type Mega Mewtwo X ex and Mega Greninja ex. The second-anniversary campaign and several limited events add reasons to open the app before their deadlines.

Dual Fusion is available now

Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket's Dual Fusion expansion launched October 28, 2026. The official announcement highlights dual-type Pokémon for the first time in this expansion, led by Psychic- and Fighting-type Mega Mewtwo X ex and Water- and Darkness-type Mega Greninja ex. That is the headline update, but the surrounding changes to decks and events may matter just as much for returning players.

The timing is also tied to Pocket's second anniversary. The Pokémon Company has published separate information about anniversary rewards, rental decks and limited campaigns. Treat each reward window separately: an expansion can remain available while a specific event closes. The app's event page is the final place to confirm local timing and whether you have claimed an item.

This article uses the publisher's launch post and event announcement. It does not assume a new card is automatically dominant or claim that a deck is solved after a few days. If you want to play more than collect, the best first move is to understand how dual typing changes your own list, then use the rental options to test ideas without committing resources.

What dual-type Pokémon change

Mega Mewtwo X ex and Mega Greninja ex are the two featured examples in the official Dual Fusion description. Their dual types are the new hook, but the exact value of a card depends on its attack text, energy requirements, supporting cards and the matchups you face. Read the live card detail rather than copying a headline that only names the types.

A useful first exercise is to compare one dual-type card with a Pokémon you already know. Look at the energy you must attach, the turns before its attack comes online, and the support you need to keep it active. Then ask what happens if you draw the support cards in the wrong order. That question often reveals whether an exciting deck is consistent enough for regular play.

The announcement encourages experimenting with the new strategies, but it does not provide a definitive best list. Early showcases can be fun without representing the wider player base. If you are short on pack resources, watch how cards perform in your own matches and inspect rental decks before deciding where to spend. A good test is a set of games, not one spectacular win.

Six rental decks provide a low-pressure starting point

From the Dual Fusion release until December 15, 2026 at 5:59 p.m. PST, six Dual Fusion rental decks are available, according to the publisher. The line-up includes options featuring Mega Mewtwo X ex and Mega Greninja ex. When the next booster pack releases, those rental decks will be replaced by new ones. That makes the current window worth checking even if you are not buying packs.

Rental decks let you feel a strategy's sequence before you build it from your collection. Play enough matches to learn which cards are essential and which ones are flexible. Notice whether a deck needs a strong opening hand, whether it recovers from a slow start, and which turns force a difficult choice. Those observations are more useful than judging it from its featured card alone.

Pocket also sends a new elite deck to Gifts. The official post describes a Dragon-type list with Mega Rayquaza ex and Dragonair from Ruler of the Skies, plus Gouging Fire from Paradox Drive. Claim it in the app and read its contents before deciding it replaces a deck you already enjoy. Gift availability and any inventory rules should be checked in the current client.

The second-anniversary rewards have their own deadlines

The second-anniversary celebration campaign runs October 29 through December 14. Players receive a ticket exchangeable for a booster pack guaranteed to include a two-star card, according to the publisher's event schedule. That guarantee describes the pack reward, not a particular Pokémon. Open the event details for the exact claim and exchange steps.

The PROMO Reissue Drop and Wonder Pick events run October 29 through November 12. They offer B-series promo cards. Handy Card Collection Missions continue longer, from October 29 through January 26, 2027, with useful Trainer cards including Sabrina and Red among the listed rewards. These three windows are easy to mix up, so note the November 12 cutoff first.

The official launch post also says Mega Greninja covers and backdrops become available October 31. Cosmetic collection is a separate goal from building a competitive deck. If you care about both, check the events tab before spending time opening packs. A limited mission may be easier to complete while you are already testing a rental deck.

Read the Producer Letter for the wider direction

The October 2026 Producer Letter provides the broader context for changes to collecting and battling. It discusses the game's second-anniversary direction and says future battle events with restricted eligible cards are planned after booster releases. A planned format is different from a live event; do not build around an unannounced date or assume every card will be legal.

For returning players, this matters because collection goals and battle goals can diverge. A beautiful new card might be worth chasing for your binder even when it does not improve your current deck. Conversely, a common support card could make several lists work. Decide which kind of progress you want before using limited resources.

If a guide refers to an older Pocket interface or reward route, compare it with the present app. Live games adjust menus, deck tools and event requirements. The publisher's current article and the in-game notices are stronger evidence than a screenshot from a previous expansion. That is especially true around anniversaries, when several campaigns overlap.

A practical first-week plan

Begin by updating the app and claiming the Gifts and anniversary ticket shown in your account. Then visit the event list and prioritize the PROMO Reissue window because it ends earlier than the main anniversary campaign. Check the rental decks and play a few matches with the one closest to your collection's strengths. This sequence gives you information before you spend.

Next, look at the two featured dual-type Mega Pokémon in the card database. If you already own suitable support cards, choose one direction to test. If you do not, keep the rental deck as your experiment and save pack resources until you know what you are missing. A deck's weakest draw pattern matters as much as its strongest finish.

Finally, set a reminder for the event you actually intend to finish. The official schedule includes different deadlines in November, December and January, so there is no single 'Dual Fusion end date.' The expansion itself and its associated campaigns should be treated separately. That small distinction can prevent a missed reward and keep the update enjoyable instead of stressful.
